Tau Volantis is an icy planet that has frequent blizzards and is home to hostile wildlife. It has a number of buildings in a colony or city of some sort. It is central to the events of Dead Space 3 . Tau Volantis allegedly holds the key to stopping the Necromorph plague.

During the events of Dead Space 3 Isaac's ship breaks apart, separating Isaac Clarke from Ellie Langford. It is unknown what caused the ship to break apart, be it the heat from falling into orbit or the intense blizzard.
