Rip Cores are weapon parts found in Dead Space 3. They produce the game's equivalent of RC-DS Remote Control Disc Rippers on both Compact and Heavy frames.

Design DetailsEdit

A short range suspended blade tool, each variants on the Ripper.

Ranged weapon, uses universal ammo. Can be used as a Lower Tool and a Upper Tool.

Attachable TipsEdit

Heavy Frame:

  • Default Tip [Suspended Ripper]: Fires a suspended saw blade for quick cutting. The blade remains spinning right in front of you and moves as you do, allowing you to saw at enemies in your face. However, the spinning blade does not always stagger an enemy or interrupt its melee attack, making this a risky weapon to use against most enemies since they can still attack while being slashed continuously. Holds 8 blades. +1 blade per Clip Upgrade. Rate of Fire upgrades increases the duration of the blade.
  • Directed Ejection Field: Fires saw blades that cut horizontally. Fires the blades as projectiles. The width of the blade makes them similar to shots from a Line Gun. Holds 8 blades. +1 blade per Clip Upgrade.

Compact Frame:

  • Default Tip [Suspended Ripper]: Fires a suspended saw blade for quick cutting. Functions exactly the same way as the Heavy Frame version but with less damage. Holds 8 blades by default. +1 blade per Clip Upgrade.
  • Compact Directed Ejection Field: Fires saw blades that cut horizontally. Fires the blades as projectiles. The width of the blade makes them similar to shots from a Plasma Disperser. Blades from this weapon travel faster than those from the Heavy Frame version. Holds 8 blades by default. +1 blade per Clip Upgrade.
  • Tundra Recon Tip [Tundra Recon Ripper]: Similar to the Default Tip, but with more damage. Only available with the Tundra Recon Pack DLC. Holds 8 blades by default. +1 blade per Clip Upgrade.

TriviaEdit

  • The original Ripper can be constructed by using a Compact Frame, putting a default tip on the Upper Tool, and a Compact Directed Ejection Field on the Lower Tool.
  • If a Rip Core is attached to a Heavy Frame as an Upper Tool, Isaac's hand will clip through the side of the blade holder and through the actual blade when exiting aiming mode. This does not affect gameplay, and is more of an oversight by the developers.
