The Galactic Union Merchant Marine Corp, also known as the GUMMC and the Merchant Marine, is an organization that operates merchant vessels along commercial shipping lanes between colonial sectors.
Poul Clarke was an award-winning ship architect employed by the GUMMC. His son, Isaac Clarke, enlisted in the Merchant Marine after graduating from a backwater engineering school.[1]
