| “ | This is Commander Cadigan! We have hostiles on board! This is NOT a drill! Hostiles are alien, repeat, ALIEN and extremely dangerous! All personnel have weapons ready and fire at will![1] | ” |
F. Cadigan was the commander of the USM Valor and was charged with Operation: WHITE LIGHT.
At some point after the USM Valor entered the Aegis Cluster, Isaac Clarke successfully launched a SOS beacon, which the Valor's crew immediately picked up on; en route to the USG Ishimura, they intercepted an escape pod launched from the Ishimura.
Unfortunately, the pod contained a Slasher; it is unknown exactly what occurred aboard the USM Valor, but by the time the ship reached the USG Ishimura, the majority of the ship's personnel were either dead or infected. What is known, however, is that Commander Cadigan alerted his crew to the presence of the Necromorphs, signifying that he at least was able to respond to the attack.[note 1] Isaac finds the following log.
-Orders (Text) EYES ONLY - PRIORITY BLACK FROM: CHIEF OF STAFF, EARTH DEFENSE ATTN: COMMANDER CADIGAN, F. OPERATION WHITE LIGHT THEATER: AEGIS SYSTEM, PLANET PENDING OBJECTIVE: DEEP CLEANSE CEC vessel USG Ishimura in breach of government order. They are believed to have recovered Marker 3A. Special Ops has confirmed the system but has been unable to provide the planet location. Special Ops advises caution. If Marker 3A has been recovered, infection by a lethal organism is a credible threat. Shockpoint to Aegis system, move to position out of local scope range and await signal from Ishimura to confirm location
